Chennai for me is Pure positive energy. A 5th Generation Chennai-vaasi for me now this city is nothing but home. There is just something about our Chennai City that brings out the best in us. The people, the culture, the history it's just brilliant. Whenever I take a break travel to other cities the shows me where Chennai stands in terms of warmth and affection. The positive acceptance of all the diversity can truly be experienced in our city. Everyone & Everything co-exists and a peaceful city. In all the hustle and bustle of a big Metro, there is still calm. The old town charm still exists, especially very early in the mornings the real soul of Chennai can be felt.
What I love most about Chennai is the weather, the summers are the Best. Usually, people hate the heat but I, on the other hand, love Chennai summer, (the manga season). It’s when Chennai is at its best. The true colors & flavors come out during this season and must mention the nostalgic memories of the summer holidays where I learned more things than when I was at school. The city has molded me to make me who I am, learnt most of every skill that I know from the streets of Chennai. The local Madras slang that I picked up helped me mold a career as a Radio Jockey. It's one city that has everything for everyone. Just the energy of my Chennai city Chance-eyilla
The best memories are my summer cycle expeditions with school friends getting into streets that we had never been to before discovering cool places. Cycling not to school but just elsewhere itself felt like an adventure. There was this one time when a bunch of us peddled to Muthukadu bridge and back. Everything that could go wrong from punctured tires to rain to getting late happened and scared of course. It's not the ECR that we see today, back then it was dark and a very lonely stretch with casuarina trees on both sides. Quite a long story of the incidents of that day. This habit of exploring places in a cycle has stuck with me right through to date. Always tell my friends the best way to feel our real Chennai is to cycle around. Especially in North Chennai, the old heritage buildings remind me of what awesomeness this city was. The glory days of Chennai as my grandfather would describe it.
Another highlight of circling north Chennai is the amazing street food we get there. Right from bhaji bonda to Burmese noodle soup and at such rates that our schoolboy’s allowance could splurge. A big bowl of altho then was only 10. The Indo-Chinese cuisine which has almost become mainstream cuisine today had its beginnings at favorite stalls I would claim. Then the north Indian sweet stalls and snacks our all-time favorite go-to snack was Channa samosa on a plate for 5 Rs. It was almost like a different world when we pedal around parrys. Outside the Kuralagam building there was a softy ice cream spot just 2 RS. for a cone and tell you I've not tasted any branded ice cream that can beat the flavors of that.
To sum it all up am one Madras Oorkai and yes Chennai is Still Madras for me,
